Joan Of Arc By Jules Basten Lepage Essay -- essays research papers
à à à à à ââ¬Å"Joan of Arc,â⬠was painted by the French realist artist Jules Bastien-Lepage in 1879. ââ¬Å"After the province of Lorraine was lost to Germany following the Franco-Prussian War in 1821, The Frenchmen saw in Joan of Arc a new and powerful symbol. In 1875, Bastien-Lepage, a native of Lorraine began to make studies for a picture of her. In the present painting, exhibited in the Salon of 1880, Joan is shown receiving her revelation in her parents garden. Behind her are Saints Michael, Margaret, and Catherine. (Caption next to painting in The Metropolitan)â⬠à à à à à Jules Bastien-Lepage creates a realistic atmosphere, including a supernatural, religious-like presence within his painting. Oil on canvas was used to create the realistic quality of the work. By closely examining the artistââ¬â¢s technique, it is clear that he uses delicate brush strokes in a true to life manner. The colors, and use of light seem to be painted in a layered fashion to give the landscape a sense of depth. The background of the painting is a garden which include foliage and brush that surrounds the primary focus of the painting, Joan of Arc. The artist put a great effort into the details of the scene. Bastien-Lepage uses a distinct realistic quality in his painting which is visible in each individual leaf and branch. Various hues of earth tones, green and brown being the most evident, are blended together in the garden scene. à à à à à In...

Chaos In William Shakespeares King Lear :: essays research papers
A device which Shakespeare often utilized to convey the confusion and chaos within the plot of his plays, is the reflection of that confusion and chaos in the natural environment of the setting, along with supernatural anomalies and animal imageries. In King Lear, these devices are used to communicate the plot, which is summarized by Gloucester as: à à à à à …This villain of mine comes under the prediction: there’s son against father. The King falls from bias of nature: there’s father against child. (Act 1, Sc.1, 115 - 118) The “bias of nature'; is defined as the natural inclination of the world. Throughout the play King Lear, the unnatural inclination of nature, supernatural properties and animal imageries are used by Shakespeare to illustrate the chaotic state of England, which was caused by the treacheries of the evil characters. à à à à à Gloucester is a character in the play who firmly believed that man’s fate has supernatural properties that are controlled or reflected by the heaven and stars: à à à à à These late eclipses in the sun and moon à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à Portend us to no good. Though the wisdom of à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à nature can reason it thus and thus, yet nature finds à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à itself scourged by the sequent events. (Act 1, Sc. 2, 109 - 113) This is proclaimed by Gloucester as he is told by Edmund of Edgar’s supposedly treacherous plot to remove him from power. Gloucester’s trust in Edgar faltered as a result of Lear’s irrational banishment of Cordelia and Kent, coupled with recent anomalies in the heavens. Gloucester believed that Lear’s actions also came as a result of the star’s unusual behaviour. Edmund, the treacherous and bastard son of Gloucester, exploits Gloucester’s blind believe in the stars in his plot to oust Edgar out of the inheritance and ultimately to gain all of Gloucester’s wealth and land: à à à à à This is the excellent foppery of the world, that when we are sick in fortune (often the surfeits of the sun, the moon, and stars, as if we were villains on necessity; fools by heavenly compulsion; knaves, thieves, and treacherous by spherical predominance; drunkards, liars, and adulterers by an enforced obedience of planetary influence; and all that we are evil in, by a divine thrusting on. (Act 1. Sc. 2, 125 - 133) As a result of the irrational acts of trust by Lear and Gloucester, the state of England crumbled due to corruptness and treachery of Regan, Goneril and Edmund. At the point of ultimate chaos, Lear is disdained by his two evil daughters and has none of the power and honour of his kingship, and the state of nature reflects this chaos in the form of a tumultuous storm:

Factors of communication Essay
Own working practice can affect children and young peopleââ¬â¢s development in many ways. Children learn trough impersonation, so it is important to always keep in mind that they need to have good role models. When I am working with children, I always remember to be encouraging and trust worthy. When working with children Iââ¬â¢m always evaluating and noticing them so that I will be able to suggest for any child and their requirements by adapting the activities for them. It is very essential for me to observe the children that Iââ¬â¢m working with competently, so I will know what activity I can plan for them, because sometimes some children might find the activity uncomplicated and get bored. Carers are the childrenââ¬â¢s role models and they should give them examples to pursue and affect their development in a good way. Shouting can influence a childââ¬â¢s development so when Iââ¬â¢m with them I should always remember not to yell. If I am always shouting, children might not ask me any questions as they panic that they would be shouted at or even worse they might start copying me and develop a shouting habit. I have to shield the children from difficult situations when working with them and to always be aware, that is why when there is a problem I share it with my colleagues so we can deal with it and any other difficulties that may arise. While operating with the children I always provide important aspects of care, have good relationship with my colleagues, mind my language, possess suitable material and equipment, and have an appropriate behaviour. Read more: Explain how children and young peopleââ¬â¢s development is influenced by a range of external factors essay When my teammate and I are doing an activity and crafts in the nursery some of the children might find it harder than other children to use scissors to cut out paper, this might lead the child to be disappointed, get bored and sometimes they end up not wanting to take part in the activity, so to improve those children out we give them proper scissors for those who have more difficulties gripping normal ones. This way our children can proceed together as a group with the activity that has been stated. There are other materials that assist a childââ¬â¢s development and help them take part in the activities, like pencil grips, triangle shaped colours and many more. Thatà is why itââ¬â¢s very important to have quality equipment, know what theyââ¬â¢re for and how to apply them. I must always keep in mind that not all children develop the same way, some may require more time whilst others may need less, thatââ¬â¢s why itââ¬â¢s important to be tolerant and regard the childââ¬â¢s personal needs. So I should always remember to use appropriate equipment, be skilled and accomplished in my job to make it easier in childrenââ¬â¢s development. Essex: Heinemann pg. 81-95 Explain how institutions, agencies and services can affect children and young peopleââ¬â¢s development: Institutions, agencies and services can affect children development in many ways. If there are good components that meet with the children needs this off course will help a lot in there development. Some of the children might have some sort of disability so it is important for the institution to have appropriate equipment and skilled carers. Institutions must always meet the needs of the children either if they are socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Youth justice this is based on children with behavioural problems these people will work with them and also social workers to help them. Social workers are there to help vulnerable children and young people and their families this might include children on the child protection register or disabled difficulties. They provide teachers and practitioners with aimed support programmes for that child once they have identified the childââ¬â¢s needs. Some institutions also provide specialist nurses who support for the family and child especially if that child suffers from medical conditions that need specialist care and also health visitors come under this title for measuring and assessing a childââ¬â¢s development. As well as a psychiatrist, a doctor who is trained in mental health problems. This person works alongside other professionals to help diagnose or support children and young people with mental health problems. In a well equipped environment children can develop important factors such as emotional development, social and interactive development, self development and much more. Though it is always important to have the right components and safe equipment, it is also very important that the children are always supervised by a responsible and skilled carer. Carers in an institution or agency should always be professional and responsible. They should always keep in mind that they need to create a safe and nonthreatening environment, should always monitor closely the reaction of children, keep records and be careful and follow good practice when using any type of equipment. A Brief Note On Slash And Burn Agriculture Essay -- Agriculture, Sociolo
Slash and Burn Agriculture is a widely used method of cultivating crops in usually temperate or tropical regions. It is the process which forested land is clear cut and any remaining vegetation is burned, the ash remains contain a nutrient rich top soil that helps fertilize crops. After years of cultivation the fertility of the soil decline and weeds increase, causing the farmers to shift to a new plot. Traditionally the old plot was left uncultivated, reverting itself into a secondary forest of bush and within a decade it could be reused. By the early 21st century the plot is usually maintained in a permanent deforested state, causing farmers to move to new plots and aiding to the destruction of Earthââ¬â¢s resources. Slash and Burn Agriculture is a significant step in history because it leads to more early human settlements and the destruction of natural habitats. Groups of hunters and gathers turned to slash and burn agriculture and domestication of various animals, which provides more nutrition per hectare then hunting and gathering on their own. Thus leading to more deforestation to convert forests into crop fields and pastures as the need for more nutrition grew as the population steadily rose. Early slash and burn agriculture wasnââ¬â¢t done in excessively large areas as it is today, the land was controlled by a family till the resources were exhausted and it was left to refurnish itself over time. Now slash and burn agriculture is particularly destructive. Now the land is being burnt down in excessive amounts; leading the loss of habitat and species, increase of carbon into the atmosphere, soil erosion, water contamination, and landslides. Homework in labor economics - Assignment Example (4c). at equilibrium price of $ 6 the amount of employment is 16. Suppose the government set a minimum price at 7, more workers will be induced to look for jobs. This will increase labour supply at the same time reducing demand for labour Setting a minimum wage in a two sector economy has a spillover effect in the two economy. For example a model where one sector is more productive than the other, setting a minimum wage in the unproductive sector to reduce the wage gap causes a negative spillover effect on the productive sector. As much as job creation in the unproductive sector is ambiguous, job creation in the productive sector unambiguously decreases. This is because a minimum wage increases the outside option of unemployed workers contributing to wage determination in the productive sector. This is represented by a downward shift in supply curve resulting into an increase in wages and decrease in

Trial Observation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Trial Observation - Essay Example I strolled into the courtroom at 1:18 PM, noticed there were only the attorneys of the defense as well as the people. Apart from that, a map with points drawn in various colors, hang alongside the wall on an easel, for communicating space between various locations. Finally, Judge Honor Nanci Grant arrived in the court with the jury in tow and immediately after settling, the trial begun with the swearing in of witnesses for the people. Firstly, the police detective responsible for the lawsuit as well as the arrest of the defendant had been called in by the prosecutor. Primarily, the questioning of the detective focused on the map discussing the distance from the point of arrest together with a school roughly 400 feet away as the witness narrated. The point of arrest then began to be called the ââ¬Å"18 and Allisonâ⬠home. Subsequently, the detective was questioned about what was discovered in custody of the defendant. The detective responded that he together with his colleagues stumbled upon lottery tickets concealed in a manner to be utilized as pouch something that proved a plan to distribute heroin. Alongside the lottery ââ¬Å"pouchesâ⬠the police further discovered 39 tenths of a gram of ââ¬Å"normal qualityâ⬠heroin having a street worth of $390. Thus the officer was convinced to consider that the quantity was doubtful and it would have dawned on any other officer that the defendant also had the intention to distribute versus basically being in possession of the drugs. More evidence was brought into the lawsuit, for instance , letters to the defendant. My assumption was that the prosecutor used them to confirm defendantââ¬â¢ residence at the time. Included were photographs showing the defendantââ¬â¢s shoes together with the table having the items on it, on the night of the raid. Oneââ¬â¢s impression of Mr. Lewisââ¬â¢ chances initially and what you saw toward his departure had changed dramatically. After hearing the cross-examination of the detective and Mr. Lewis you could see room for mistakes. The circumstances involved with the household could have led to a mistake in the identity of possession; the facts against the defendant may not have been his. However, Mr. Lewis could be guilty or not guilty; the jury could arrive at either decision. Finally, alongside the appreciation for the law, I gained new knowledge; I learned what a choirboy was. I also now see why that would be crucial to the case since it is a household item but can also be used for doing drugs. I further learned the strictn ess of following the system when trying a case. For every piece of evidence brought up, there had to be permission from the judge to admit it or even show it to the witness. Lastly, one could not fail to appreciate the legal system in place for placing the burden of proof on the people and having the defendant innocent until proven guilty. Ã
